The City of Nevada added a Development and Communications Specialist position to its administrative structure in 2020. One of the primary purposes was for the person in this position to improve the City’s “connection” to its residents through a variety of communication measures and resources.
The Communications Department has responsibility for:
- Managing information distributed through the City’s website and social media outlets
- Writing and reporting on matters of interest in the City of Nevada
- Working with various City departments on special projects and events
- Helping with the communication efforts of Main Street Nevada and the NEDC on behalf of the City
- Serving on the Main Street Nevada Promotions Committee
- Writing and Designing the City’s monthly newsletter
- Helping research City matters to assist with grant writing and other needs
- Helping with public outreach on matters of City interest
- Coordinating between media and City staff and officials on media requests

Marlys Barker served as the community’s newspaper editor for 27 1/2 years, resigning in September of 2019. She was hired by the City in June of 2020 to work on a variety of communications projects and initiatives.
