Use the ‘Blocked Crossing Incident Reporter’ when trains are blocking the tracks

Trains stopping on the tracks and blocking streets and roads happens frequently in Nevada, which has a number of railroad crossings.

Mayor Brett Barker spoke with other area Mayors about the problem. He was offered the following information and advice:

Iowa Code allows for 10 minutes of a train blocking a roadway. Nevadans have experienced longer blockages. To address the problem, we HAVE to get residents to log in EVERY time and complain because the railroad will track this information and will take action to solve the problem if they get consistent complaints.

Save this website — www.fra.dot.gov/blockedcrossings/ —  into your phone or on your computer, and use it every time you are blocked to report the situation. If enough reports come in, we are hopeful railroad officials will see the data and take steps to correct it.
