AMES, Iowa – The public is welcome to attend an update on the April 2025 Homelessness Action Plan report commissioned by the City of Ames and Story County. The open-house-style event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, in the Ames Public Library Auditorium, 515 Douglas Ave.

The Homelessness Action Plan report provided recommendations on service gaps, collaboration opportunities, and best practices in assisting the unsheltered population in Story County. The City of Nevada has taken part in discussions and workshops with other county leaders on this matter.

“Confronting homelessness requires compassion, coordination, and community involvement,” said Pa Vang Goldbeck, Ames Assistant City Manager. “This event will help residents, community partners, and service providers better understand barriers and challenges facing unhoused individuals in Story County and identify ways we can work together to find solutions.”

Participants at the event will be invited to share feedback through interactive displays and activities. In addition, service providers will have opportunities to connect with other organizations and engage with community members about ongoing strategies and partnerships focused on addressing homelessness.

More information, including the Homelessness Action Plan that includes recommendations for community action, is available on the City of Ames website at: www.CityOfAmes.org/Homeless.
