The City of Nevada welcomes Interim Library Director Julie Ungs of Ames.
Julie retired after 36 years of library experience, working in school libraries, mostly at the elementary school level. She was at Ballard for 19 years and at Gilbert for 17 years.
Raised on a farm near Anamosa in eastern Iowa, Julie said she loves books and reads every day. Given her background, it’s not surprising that she reads a lot of children’s and young adult books. Her favorite book genres are mysteries and suspense.
Another favorite pastime for Julie is exercise. She enjoys walking, both “water walking” and walking on land. She’s also stayed busy in retirement with school classroom subbing assignments.
Julie and her husband Charlie have three sons and seven grandchildren, ranging in age from 5 to 12. She loves spending time with her grandchildren.
As for the interim library position, Julie said she’s very excited to be at the Nevada Public Library. “My door is always open.”
