Congratulations to Lt. Nick Brown of the Nevada Fire Department on receiving recognition at last night’s City Council meeting for his work to sign up 100 percent of the Nevada Fire Department’s membership in the Gold Helmet Challenge.
Due to Brown’s dedication, the Nevada, Iowa fire department received the distinction of being the 17th Gold Helmet Fire Department in the country, and the 1st in Iowa, to take part in this national effort to track the cancer risk of those in the fire service.
As he was recognized, Fire Chief Ray Reynolds stated that Brown’s work on getting all of Nevada’s firefighters signed up will no doubt eventually save lives because of the valuable information being collected.
