Admission-free movie event at the Camelot this Saturday

On a weekend when the weather will be right in line with the movie title, the Camelot Theater Foundation, with sponsorship from Bricktown Bakery and other community supporters, is offering free admission to see “Frozen” on the big screen!

Bring the entire family this Saturday (Jan. 31) to see the popular Disney show that features characters like Elsa, Olaf, Sven, Hans, and more.

The free movie is just one part of a day that offers several other possibilities, all aimed at raising funds for a new computer at the historic Camelot Theater.

“We need to upgrade to a modern computer system to meet better presentation standards,” explained Tiffany Tope, one of Camelot’s volunteers. A new computer will allow the theater to do the following:

  • run pre-show programming smoothly (for trailers, announcements, sponsor slides, and special content)
  • transition seamlessly into the feature film without delays, blank screens, or manual intervention
  • improve reliability, reducing the risk of technical issues during screenings
  • save staff and volunteer time because it will allow for automated programming

The Camelot Foundation Board reports that repairing the current system is no longer feasible and that a new system will ensure audiences have a professional movie-going experience, making the Camelot more attractive as a venue for special events, fundraisers, and sponsored screenings.

“This upgrade isn’t about bells and whistles; it’s about keeping the theater operational, dependable, and ready for the future,” Tope said.

This Saturday, while admission is free, you can donate to help reach the fundraising goal. A $10 donation per child buys him or her a “little Olaf” or princess item, whichever the child chooses.

At other tables, fun movie-related items will be part of a silent auction, with the highest bidder winning each item.

In addition, Bricktown Bakery, across the street from the theater, will have a Frozen array of goodies and visits with characters Elsa, Anna, and Olaf from 9-11 a.m.

Three show times are available Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 2 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.

Forge through the frozen weather and into the warmth of the theater for free entertainment, and if you can, spend $10 on a “little Olaf” or princess item, and/or take a chance and bid on a movie-related item, knowing that all of these contributions bring the theater one step closer to a much-needed computer system.

As always, thank you to all those who support the historic theater.
