Enjoy ‘Dueling pianos’ while supporting After Prom

Piano keyboard art and the words Nevada After Prom

Junior parents in Nevada have been passionate for a number of years about fundraising to put on the best After Prom parties for Nevada students.

This year is no different.

For the second consecutive year, one of the fundraisers for After Prom will be Dueling Pianos.

“People said they loved the music and the ‘sing-a-long’ show that the piano artists put on,” reported junior parent Heidi Grimm about last year’s event. Grimm is one of the parents involved in bringing Dueling Pianos back to Nevada to raise funds for this year’s After Prom.

Acme Event Company out of Colorado Springs provides the Dueling Pianos act. The event this year, featuring pianists Papi and Skyler, will be held at Christy Hall, 220 H Ave., in Nevada near the fairgrounds. It’s a three-hour, fun-filled performance beginning at 7 p.m. This event is only open to those aged 21 and above. It includes whiskey and wine pulls, where you can pay money to pick a number and get a random bottle of whisky or wine. Those attending can also bring their own drinks, including alcoholic beverages, as long as they don’t contain hard liquor.

Tickets are $40 per person (or $50 if purchased at the door of the event), and 100 percent of the ticket sales support the After Prom. A silent auction will also be held at the Dueling Pianos event.

Grimm said this year’s After Prom will feature inflatables, Casino Night-themed games, a hypnotist, snacks, a coffee bar, and many great prizes.

Along with Dueling Pianos, the After Prom committee has done other things to raise money. Grimm said the Can Redemption Center in Nevada has an account for After Prom that people can donate their cans to. In the fall, the committee sold Sweet & Savory cupcakes and glow items at football games. They’ve also done a “round-up” fundraiser at Fareway earlier in the school year and will do another round-up in March. And there has been great support from the Nevada business community.

“We’ve had many local businesses donate to Dueling Pianos and to the After Prom in general,” she said.

Local businesses who have donated so far include: Good & Quick, Kelly Laundry, Nevada Family Chiropractic, Lincolnway Energy, Mid-States Companies, South Story Bank, Burke, Edward Jones-Tom Geist, Key Coop, Schaffer’s Auto Body, Midwest Insurance Corporation, Availa Bank, 21st Century Rehab, Stephensen Dental, Ames Ford, Prairie Oak Properties, Story Medical, The Well, Sweet & Savory, Iowa Farm Life Dreams, Van Wall, and Nevada Vision Clinic.

“We are also thankful to all the parents who have helped or donated to After Prom,” Grimm said.

Nevada parents have been raising funds in creative ways for years to support an event that supports their children. Please see the flyer art shown above for details on how you can purchase tickets to Dueling Pianos.
