Gibson hired by City to be a public works employee

Jordan Gibson, a 2015 graduate of Nevada High School, began employment with the City of Nevada today. Gibson will be a public works employee, sharing time between the Water, Wastewater, and Streets departments.

Following high school, Gibson worked for the Local 55 Electrical Union, where he traveled all over the country working on wind turbines.

“I was an underground splicer, doing all the underground electrical work,” he said. It was all on-the-job training, and the best part was seeing a lot of the country.

“In 2019, we worked in 23 states,” he said. His favorite of all the places they worked was Colorado. “We were working right outside of Estes Park. I hadn’t been to Colorado before, but I loved it.”

More recently, Gibson has worked for CIT Sewer out of McCallsburg as a jet operator.

He and his family are living in McCallsburg at this time. His family includes wife, Emily (Engelman), a 2018 graduate of Nevada High School, and their children Karson, 2, and Everly, 7 months. Gibson often spends time with his parents, Jason and Kim Gibson, at their home in Nevada.

Coming to Nevada from Ohio when he was in fifth grade, Gibson said he considers Nevada his hometown, and he’s liked living here. “The people are friendly, and I like that Nevada is in the middle of the state and middle of the country. We’re a short drive to lots of opportunities for entertainment and stuff in the cities, but we can still enjoy rural living.”

He’s glad for the opportunity to work for the City of Nevada.

When he’s not working, his hobbies include pretty much anything you do in the great outdoors. “I like hunting, fishing, riding motorcycle…just being outside.”
