What is your age and grade you will be in school this coming year? I am currently 18 and will be a freshman in college next year at the University of Iowa.
Who are your parents? Bruce and DeeDee Thomsen.
What is your job at FFAC? I am a lifeguard here at the aquatic center and this is my first summer although I would have guarded last year if the pool had opened.
What do you enjoy most about your summer job? My favorite thing about being a lifeguard is swimming with the other guards and getting to hang out with everyone.
What else do you enjoy doing in the summer? Although I’m working most of the time, I also really enjoy spending time with friends and going for walks.
What was the most important thing you learned during training? The most important thing I learned during training was the importance of always being prepared and being aware, even when the pool isn’t busy.
Do you have a favorite concessions item? If I had to choose a favorite snack from the concessions stand it would be an Airhead.
What is your favorite station as a lifeguard? My favorite station is by far the little red chair that sits by the drop slide.
What do you say most when you are working? The most common thing we tell kids is to walk or not dunk others.
FFAC is in its 20th season of operation – do you think it’s still a great place to enjoy time? I do think the aquatic center is a great place to spend your summer and stay active.
