Meet FFAC Lifeguard Natalie Barber

How old are you and what’s your grade in school? I am 16 years old, and I’ll be a junior next year at Nevada High School.

Who are your parents? Jen & Cliff Barber

What is your job at FFAC? This is actually my first year working as a lifeguard at the pool, and I’m really excited to work here.

Do you remember taking lessons as a kid? What did you like about swimming? I do remember taking swimming lessons as a kid, and I just remember how much fun it was being with other kids and learning how to swim. One thing I enjoyed during the lessons was using the water boards a lot.

What is the most important thing you learned during your lifeguard training? I think the most important thing that I’ve learned is how to do CPR because it’s not only useful at the pool but I can also apply it wherever help is needed. I just find it useful to know.

What do you love about FFAC? Something I love about FFAC is the staff, because they are very inclusive and not judgmental. They provide a safe and comfortable environment for other staff members. They are also really easy to talk to and are easy to go to for any questions.

What is your favorite lifeguard station? My favorite lifeguarding spot is probably at the bottom of the slides because I enjoy watching the kids and adults reactions to the slides and a lot of the kids will often tell me how fun the slides were, and it just puts a smile on my face.

What is your favorite concession stand item? My favorite concession food item is honestly probably any sort of ice cream, because it’s so nice to have something cold on really hot days.

How many swimsuits do you own? I actually don’t have that many swimsuits to be honest, I probably have around 3-5.

What is your favorite pool move? When I’m actually in the pool I enjoy going off the drop-off slide at the deep end and touching the bottom as quick as I can.

Is there anything else you’d like to add about your lifeguard position at FFAC? It’s fun to see people enjoy the pool, and it’s a nice way to be outside and soak up the sun.
