Scott Walkner of Nevada is the newest employee of the City of Nevada. Walkner began as a water operator with the City’s Water Department on May 1. The position was vacant due to a resignation.
Many residents are already familiar with the Minnesota native, as Walkner and his wife, Jessica, purchased Sports Bowl in Nevada late last year. Walkner had been working full-time at Burke Corp. before being hired by the City.
“I like working outside and having a variety of things to do,” Scott said. He added that he’s also looking forward to a more regular “day schedule” job, which will fit nicely with his desire to be at the bowling alley every evening.
The Walkners are parents of three daughters. Lilian and Kaidlynn are students in the Nevada School District. Their oldest, Abrielle, is out of school and lives in Minnesota.
The family lived in Nevada for a few years and returned to Minnesota, only to come back to Nevada when the opportunity to own their own bowling alley presented itself.
“Iowa sucked me in,” Scott said. “We love Nevada’s location. People can have a life in the country, but still be close to the big city… It’s the best of both worlds.”
Congratulations to Scott on his new position!
