For the second year in a row, the Sunday church service returns to the lineup of Lincoln Highway Days events (as older residents may recall, it was always part of the historic celebration).
Last year’s service offered a special BMX bike show! This year’s service will feature representatives of a nationally known skateboarding ministry, Untitled Skateboards.
First United Methodist Church in Nevada took the lead on bringing the skateboard group to town, but as First United Methodist Pastor Deb Riepe points out, “It takes everyone” to raise the money to have them perform here. “We take donations from other churches and folks in the community, as well.”
Pastor Deb and Associate Pastor Johnathan Stone invite Nevada residents to take part in the Sunday service, which will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Dueland Pavilion, and will wrap up another fun year of Lincoln Highway Days events.
The skateboarders, Pastor Deb describes, will bring “something rare for Nevada. It’s going to be fun, energetic, and full of life!”
The skateboarders will intrigue adults, but Pastors Deb and Johnathan believe kids will be the most engaged. “When all is said and done, you look at all the kids with wonder in their eyes as they watch and listen to these guys do their stunts and tell their amazing stories…It is worth every penny, minute, and ounce of effort” that it takes to bring them to town.
Along with the skateboarding show, the Lincoln Highway Days worship service will offer music by the First United Methodist Revive Praise Team.
The Sunday service is free to attend, and no offering will be taken. Bring the family and enjoy some time with others in the community!
