It’s a City election year, and the filing period for the three council seats and the mayor’s seat starts this month.
Things to know:
- The first day candidates may file nomination papers is Monday, August 25. The last day to file nomination papers is Thursday, September 18, by 5 p.m. There are no filing fees.
- The regular City Election date this year is Tuesday, November 4.
- Seats open and up for election on the Nevada City Council this year are: Ward 2 seat (currently held by Luke Spence), Ward 4 seat (currently held by Dane Nealson), At-Large seat (currently held by Steve Skaggs), and Mayor’s seat (currently held by Ryan Condon).
- According to the law in Iowa, candidates must be at least 18 years old to run for City office.
- Nomination papers are available at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, the Auditor’s office at Story County Administration Building, or on the Secretary of State’s website: sos.iowa.gov/city-elections.
Completed nomination papers must be returned to the City Clerk’s office (at City Hall) by the 5 p.m., September 18, deadline.
