If only one word were used to describe the Nevada Library’s new assistant library director, that word would likely be “colorful.”
From her eyeglasses to her earrings, and often her entire outfit, Danielle Schmitt said she loves to make people smile, and that’s why she wears some very colorful things.
She also loves to read, and though her educational background didn’t focus on libraries, her management and marketing experience are a perfect fit when it comes to being the new assistant library director.
“This job is perfect,” Danielle commented. She started earlier this month, working in a place she sees as a “second home.”
“I love the library. It’s a calming place where people can be and enjoy all different types of literature. The library is for everyone.”
And it’s not all about books, she added. She wants people to realize that the library offers many other services and programs for people of all ages.
Danielle will focus on adult services in her position. She’ll be doing community outreach, ordering books for the adult fiction and Spanish adult fiction areas, and coordinating programming for adults. She’ll spend the first few months getting acclimated to her duties, but she hopes to bring some new programs in for adults in the coming year. And, she noted, “Craft nights will be back!”
“I’m really excited about expanding the programming for adults in our community.”
She’s also excited to work in Nevada. “I love this community. Everybody knows you, and you can go places and everyone knows who you are. It’s warm and cozy!”
