Roadwork is expected to begin June 5 on S-14, north of Lincoln Highway from M Avenue to just north of the Union Pacific Railroad underpass on the west side of town. This work will significantly impact traffic in that area, including access to the neighborhood west of S-14 on West N Avenue.
The project includes reconstruction of the roadway and storm sewer, plus installation of a sanitary sewer from the intersection of S-14/West N Avenue to just north of the railroad underpass.
According to the City’s Consulting Engineer Larry Stevens, of HR Green, this project will be split into two halves to be certain access to the West N Avenue neighborhood is maintained at all times.
“A portion of S-14 from West N Avenue, north to the end of the project, will only be allowed to be closed during school summer break,” Stevens said. “S-14 is also a major route for agricultural equipment and trucks during the fall harvest season, so it’s best for all work to be completed before fall.”
The inability to assure the project could be completed before last fall delayed the project to this year. The project falls under the 2022 Street Improvement Project, and more information is available under the “Project” tab of the City website: cityofnevadaiowa.org.
