This is a reminder to residents that our semi-annual hydrant flushing maintenance has begun. Today (April 14), water department employees plan to flush hydrants in the Indian Ridge subdivision as they cross the community from west to east this month.
The City flushes water lines through the use of fire hydrants. The semi-annual flushing is a preventive maintenance activity. Although it may appear that we are wasting water when it runs down the street, the flushing process is necessary to maintain the integrity of the water system and allow us to continue to deliver the highest quality water possible to our customers.
Flushing hydrants reduces pipe residue and buildup that can restrict flow and create a breeding ground for bacteria. Flushing helps proactively manage hydrants and valves in the City’s distribution system. This also is an essential effort toward ensuring hydrant effectiveness for fire control purposes.
