Pictured from volunteer recognition at the City Council Meeting on April 28 are (from left) Mayor Ryan Condon, Jenny Angus, Muriel Burnett, Emily Schaack, and Micah Hayek and his son with Schaack. Not pictured, but also recognized this year were Robb and Leah Schmidt, Tiffany Tope, and Denny and Nancy Thompson.
Mayor Ryan Condon proclaimed that the previous week of April 20-26 was National Volunteer Week in the City of Nevada, IA, and signed an official proclamation.
Along with this, Emily Schaack, director of Main Street Nevada, shared the people who were nominated by others in the Main Street organization to be recognized for their volunteerism. This is the second straight year of recognizing volunteers in our community. This year’s recognition went to: Micah Hayek, Robb & Leah Schmidt, Tiffany Tope, Denny & Nancy Thompson, Muriel Burnett, and Jenny Angus. Only three were present at the meeting to receive an honorary pin.
Schaack shared that “in a town like Nevada, it’s the volunteers who are making it a great place to live. From service club projects like Denny’s Dock at the pond behind the Field House, to human service organizations like Harmony Clothing Closet and Cubbies Cupboard, from event groups like Lincoln Highway Days Committee and Nevada Rodeo Committee to the economic development groups like Main Street Nevada and the NEDC, even coaches for our youth sports… None of these things would be possible without volunteers and our town would lack a lot of options.”
Congratulations to this year’s recipients. If you’d like to learn about the various ways you can volunteer locally, call the Main Street Nevada office.
