Running for donuts… Just one more thing that makes Nevada a great place to live

Real runs can wear you out, and Runners United Nevada (RUN) has some real 5K runs in its series this year.

But one fun run – the Donut Dash – doesn’t keep you on the course too long or focus on your time. The Donut Dash focuses on being silly for the reward of donuts.

The craziest costumed runner (or walker!) on a one-mile course on the morning of April 24 will win “a dozen Bricktown Bakery donuts every month for one whole year!” That’s a lot of donuts!

“It’s fun to have a short race that families can be involved in and do something silly,” said Paula Feltner, who owns Bricktown Bakery with her husband, Mike. The fun run will be Bricktown’s second Donut Dash since its opening.

“Our first Donut Dash was Dane Nealson’s idea and happened within weeks of the opening of the bakery. Even with very little time to promote, we had 40 participants. Dane has great ideas,” Paula said.

Nealson is president of RUN, which holds a series of “mostly 5K” races in Nevada annually. You can check out what RUN has planned in its series this year at this link: Runners United Nevada (runnevada.org).

The Donut Dash is short and sweet. Every participant receives a free donut at the end of the race along with a “Loot Bag,” which Paula said will be filled with special offers and items from Nevada businesses.

The $15 per person entry fee gets you a fun Donut Dash T-shirt. Proceeds from the race entry fees will also benefit the Food at First mission in Nevada.

Brian Tucker of Nevada is designing the fun, official Donut Dash running tank. The shirts are being printed locally by Ben DuBois at Liberty Tree Advertising.

“The Donut Dash date (April 24) is also the culmination of a two-week ‘Rainbows and Unicorns’ campaign at the bakery,” Paula noted. That means race day will include the bakery’s giant unicorn friend “Fluffy,” who will be present to take photos with race participants and other bakery visitors from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. that day.

Sign up for the Donut Dash on the RUN page: Runners United Nevada (runnevada.org). And don’t dilly dally around. Only those registered before 5 p.m. on April 8 will get the running tank top with their entry fee! After you sign up, be sure to plan the craziest costume you can think up. Remember, only one will walk away with the reward of one dozen donuts a month for a year!

The Feltners are excited about this fun family event. “I love highlighting how great Nevada is and how the downtown is looking up, bringing people from surrounding communities to enjoy our community,” Paula said. She also likes working with RUN. “Runners United Nevada is a well organized group that does an amazing job promoting and encouraging runners.”
