Building & Zoning Official

City of Nevada, Iowa – This position will perform building inspections, nuisance abatement, and zoning enforcement. Directs the issuance of permits, reviews plans and makes inspections.  Residential inspector, commercial inspector, HMA 1 & PCC2 certifications required, time given to attain.  Five to six years related experience or bachelor’s degree and one to two years’ experience and/or training. Degree in Construction, Engineering, Architecture or closely related field. Salary range based on qualifications. Police Officer

The Nevada Public Safety Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

Benefit package effective July 1, 2025:

  • Non-certified candidates will start at $58,240/year ($28.00/hr)
  • Iowa certified officers are eligible to start up to $61,713/year ($29.67/hr) based on experience and certifications
  • $10,000 sign on bonus for certified officers
  • 90 hours of floating holiday available to use the first year
  • 40 hours of vacation issued upon hire
  • 10-hour workday, every other weekend is a four-day weekend
  • iPers retirement system

Physical Agility testing will be held at 8:00AM on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at the Nevada Public Safety Department, 1209 6th Street, Nevada, Iowa 50201.

Those who successfully pass physical agility testing will have a POST and interview set up at a later date.

EMT certification and Firefighter 1 certification is preferred.  Will provide training to reach these certifications.  Certified police officers and non-certified officers encouraged to apply.  Minorities, Women and Military Veterans are encouraged to apply.
