Downtown Construction Update for week ending Aug. 7

Shawn Cole, Building and Zoning Administrator for Nevada, said things went well this week during the downtown construction project.

Significant accomplishments of the week:

–The parking area for Blocks 2 and 3 (J to K and K to Lway) was poured.

–As far as excavation, crews were finishing the west side of J Avenue between Sixth and Fifth Streets.

–New and much bigger storm sewer lines were put into the alleyway between I and J (east of Sixth Street).

What’s ahead?

–The alleyway between I and J (east of Sixth Street) will be opened with a temporary rock surface. Paving of the alley will happen after work on Sixth Street is completed.

–Crews will move to J Avenue east of Sixth (between Sixth and Seventh) on Monday and start work on sanitary sewer lines in the east half of this block.

–On Blocks 2 and 3 of Sixth Street, crews will get the brick base in for the sidewalks. They will also be working on the bump-outs at J and Sixth.

–Electrical work will also be happening on Sixth Street this coming week, as workers set the light bases.

–On J Avenue west of Sixth Street, crews will finish utility work and begin prepping for that block’s paving, which Cole estimates to be about three weeks away. The start of paving in that block, he noted, will coincide with the opening of Sixth Street.
