Brian Hanson was sworn in as the appointed mayor at Monday’s council meeting. Hanson will serve until the next election.
A petition was presented with the necessary number of signatures to force a special election, which will be held March 4, 2025. Immediately after that election, the candidate receiving the most votes will take over the position of Mayor until the November 2025 election, when a mayor is elected for a full term.
Hanson’s family joined him for his swearing-in, which was administered by Mayor Pro-Tem Sandy Ehrig. Hanson served on the Nevada City Council for 18 years, resigning his seat this past year when he changed residence in town, bumping him out of the ward he was representing.
