Meet FFAC Lifeguard Ella Higgins

Your age and grade you will be in school next year? I am 16 years old, and I will be a senior next school year.

Your parents’ names? My parents are Shane and Shari Higgins.

What is your job at FFAC? How many years have you done this job? I am a lifeguard here at FFAC. This is actually my first year doing this job because we did not open last year due to COVID-19.

What do you enjoy most about your summer job? My favorite thing about working here as a lifeguard during the summer is getting to be in the sun all day and seeing the kids have fun in the water. I also love all of the people that I work with, and I think we have a very fun staff.

What else do you enjoy doing in the summer months? I enjoy going to watch baseball games and hanging out with my friends.

Do you have or have you ever had other members of your family working for Parks and Rec? My older brother Jack worked for Parks and Rec for one summer and he did grounds-keeping. My other older brother Grant is also a lifeguard here at FFAC with me. He is a head guard. My younger brother Alec works the concessions and occasionally the front desk. We currently have three Higgins kids employed for Parks and Rec.

What’s the most important thing you learned in your training for this job? Always make sure that you’re scanning all areas of the water and don’t hesitate to take action.

Do you have a favorite item at the concession stand? I like the birthday cake ice cream sandwiches.

If you’re a lifeguard, do you have a favorite station? I like working the top of the slides or the diving well.

What do you say to kids most often when you’re working? I often say “Walk please” or “You cannot stand up there.”

FFAC is in its 20th season of operation – do you think it’s still a great place to enjoy time? Yes, I think FFAC is an awesome place to be during the summer! We have lots of fun activities for the kids, and it is a very friendly environment.
