Nevada Fire Department to hold training burn on Aug. 22

The Nevada Fire Department will be conducting a house burn along west E Avenue on Aug. 22 from 7 a.m.- 4 p.m. These types of burns are vital to learning live fire conditions in a modern home.

The Department is permitted to burn two houses per year. The house owner must obtain an asbestos inspection showing there is no asbestos in the home, and the fire department must complete a DNR burn permit before a burn can happen.

Department leaders anticipate the closing of west E Avenue from Highview Street to the First Christian Church driveway on W. E Avenue during this fire training. This will create a little inconvenience for travelers on W. E Avenue, but it is important with such dangerous real training that we keep the public out of the roadways near apparatus which may be parked on the road.

Members of the public who wish to view the training burn, which is happening on the north side of the road, must be across the street and away from the roadway as they watch.

These training events do not come along very often. It is difficult to schedule them while also meeting the property owner’s timelines for removal. The Nevada Fire Department thanks the public for your patience and understanding as we take advantage of this learning opportunity.
