City tests sirens twice a month

Recent tornado events in Iowa have spurred more interest in verifying that safety systems are in place. The City of Nevada tests its sirens the FIRST and THIRD Saturdays of each month at NOON.
Sirens are an important alert system, but they may not penetrate all homes, so Public Safety officials strongly advocate for residents to also:
1) acquire an NOAA emergency weather radio;
2) sign up for the EMA Story County alerts at http://www.storycountyiowa.gov/1155/Story-County-Iowa-Alerts;
3) stay alert to severe weather conditions when they are happening.
