Update on Ash Tree Removals: Council approves bid, work to begin

Streets Department Supervisor Joe Mousel said his department will begin this week to mark (with paint) ash trees that are in the City’s Right of Way.

The Nevada City Council approved a bid from Robb’s Tree Service at Monday’s (June 13) City Council meeting. The bid will allow for the removal of ash trees and their stumps IF the ash tree is in the City’s Right of Way.

In neighborhoods with sidewalks, the Right of Way is easy to see — it’s generally the space between the sidewalk and the street. In neighborhoods without sidewalks, the City must measure the property to determine what is and isn’t in the Right of Way.

Mousel said he expects work to begin on the east side of town, and move to the west. Ash tree removal will continue as funds allow.

If you have questions, please call the City Streets Department at 515-382-4813.
